CCI Dream Fulfillment Project
As a project name of *F.R.I.E.N.D.S.-SMW, CCI has journeyed together with W.J and G.N in 2015, H and Y.G in 2016, and is hosting S.A and J.S in 2017.
*F.R.I.E.N.D.S.-SMW : ShinMang-Won is a children’s shelter in Korea, founded in 1952 by Rev. Sang Jin Park, and now Ms. Myung Hee Park serves as a director. CCI and ShinMang-Won mutually signed the MOU to provide the very unique opportunity to the carefully selected children of ShinMang-Won, who will be invited to the US for American cultural experience, English language training, and study/career guidance and counseling provided by CCI.
S.A’s story
S.A and her mother barely made a day-to-day life as selling vegetables on the street and spent nights at public bath houses and motels. With the report from neighbors, a youth protection agency separated S.A from her mother, and 8-year-old S.A was sent to ShinMang-Won on 09/09/2011.
Her biological father is unreachable since 2010 after the divorce. Even before the divorce, her family was in an unstable situation because of her father’s domestic violence practice and her mother’s mental disorder. (She only remembers the negative images of her father.)
When she was sent to ShinMang-Won, she was poorly educated and unsociable compared to those in same age group; the ways she spoke and made eye contact with others were very positive and cute, though, and she could get lots of attention and cares from others.
The assessment from an elementary school suggested her to begin at the 1st grade, not her actual age grade, which is the 2nd grade; last 6 years, she has shown the great improvements and friendly and positive attitudes even though she’s been studying with the younger ones. This year she began the middle school.
She seems to have quick reflexes and is very energetic; she likes and does well in the PE class. She also loves English, and she’s eagerly looking forward to this summer program in the United States.
Her dream is to become a nail artist.
J.s's story
On 01/14/2006, J.S was found covered in blanket at the staircase of a condo building in one suburban area. He then was at a temporary care center and sent to ShinMangWon.
He was a good and quiet baby. He used to cry often and be pouty, but he’s always a happy and lovely child everybody loves and cares.
Becoming an elementary student, he plays and exercises a lot, and loves reading and taking care of other younger children at ShinMang-Won. He is the one voluntary assistant to all the social workers at ShinMang-Won, and loves hugging them, kissing them, and talking to them all the time.
He’s been showing the great leadership at school, and became the president of the student council of the school. He is a vocalist in the school band. He is the one real happy boy, but the saddest thing about him is that nobody knows about any of his family at all. Information about his family is totally unknown.
He wants to become an elementary school teacher when he grows up.
F.R.I.E.N.D.S. – Mentoring and Leadership Program (link to page) : CCI has developed this program as its signature program, which aims to educate and prepare the second-generation Asian-American to become the leaders and the mentors for international orphans and refugee minors.
F.R.I.E.N.D.S. stands for Freedom, Restoration, Integrity, Encouragement, Nurture, Determination and Self-sufficiency, and it’s to help teenagers and young adults turn into sound, healthy and happy adults with these qualities and characters.
